We research sustainability.

Ecosystems Consultants research and advise on ways to use land and natural resources in sustainable and ethical ways. We offer a seamless blend of Research, Policy, Management and Monitoring advice for profitable food and fibre production, sustainable harvest, pest control, conservation and climate change mitigation.

  • Smog.

A mix of methods and tasks

We use qualitative and quantitative research tools, ranging from social surveys, analysis of interviews and written submissions, choice modelling, environmental field surveys, experiments and simulation modelling ... whatever combination is needed.

We particularly enjoy Participatory Action Research and ‘learning by doing’, where the knowledge and actions of the landowners, managers and citizen scientists show how to do better in the future.

  • Feeding a Titi.

    Defendable best practice

Our advice is informed by 40 years of international research experience of our principal investigator, Henrik Moller.

Henrik is a Professor Emeritus with the University of Otago’s Centre for Sustainability.

Our analysis can be reported in international science journals, locally peer reviewed reports, popular articles and web formats, media releases or oral presentations.

We strive to make our recommendations practical and locally grounded.

  • Julian, Soren, Fiona and Henrik.

A small efficient company connected to a wide network

The Ecosystems Consultants home team consists of Prof. Emeritus Moller and two research and administrative assistants.

We lead smaller projects and collaborate with expert consultants and research scientists from CRIs and universities for larger, transdisciplinary problem solving.

This results in a flexible and cost-effective research unit.
